  8. To view EXPIRE.TXT on screen in Notepad, maximize the Notepad window.
  9.  
  10. To print EXPIRE.TXT in Notepad, choose Print from the File menu.  If
  11. you use another word processor, select the entire document and format
  12. the text in 10-point Courier before printing to ensure proper spacing.
  13.  
  14. To print EXPIRE.TXT from the DOS prompt, type COPY EXPIRE.TXT PRN: and
  15. press Enter.

  39. UNINSTALLING NORTON ANTIVIRUS TRIAL EDITION

  41. This EXPIRE.TXT file details the steps to remove your Norton AntiVirus
  42. Trial Edition.  The instructions assume that Norton AntiVirus is
  43. installed in the C:\NAV directory and Windows is installed in the
  44. C:\WINDOWS directory.  If you specifed different directory locations
  45. during installation, substitute the appropriate locations.
  46.  
  47. There are five procedures to follow to remove Norton AntiVirus Trial
  48. Edition:
  49.  
  50.  * Go to the DOS prompt
  51.  * Edit AUTOEXEC.BAT (removes the startup scan, NAV from the Path,
  52.    and the DOS TSR)
  53.  * Edit CONFIG.SYS (removes the DOS TSR)
  54.  * Edit WIN.INI (removes the windows TSR)
  55.  * Delete all NAV files and remove the NAV directory
  56.  
  57. Because you are going to modify your system startup files, make sure
  58. you have a floppy boot disk that will start your computer before you
  59. begin.  You will be able to boot from the floppy disk and try again
  60. in the unlikely event that you make a serious error.
  61.

  63. Go to the DOS prompt
  64. **********************************************************************
  65. Norton AntiVirus removal must be performed at the DOS prompt.
  66.  
  67. To exit Windows and return to the root directory of your boot drive:
  68.  
  69.  1 If Windows is running, from the Program Manager File menu, choose
  70.    Exit Windows.
  71.  
  72.  2 Type C: and press Enter.
  73.  
  74.  3 Type CD \ and press Enter.
  75.

  77. Edit AUTOEXEC.BAT
  78. **********************************************************************
  79. To edit your AUTOEXEC.BAT file:
  80.  
  81.  1 Type COPY AUTOEXEC.BAT AUTOEXEC.SAF and press Enter.
  82.  
  83.    This makes a backup copy of your AUTOEXEC.BAT file, just in case
  84.    you make an error.
  85.  
  86.  2 Type EDIT AUTOEXEC.BAT and press Enter.
  87.  
  88.    This starts the DOS Edit program and displays the contents of
  89.    your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
  90.  
  91.  3 Locate and delete the line C:\NAV\NAV C:\
  92.  
  93.    This removes the startup scan.  If the line is not found, Norton
  94.    AntiVirus was not configured to scan at startup.
  95.  
  96.  4 Locate and delete the line PATH C:\NAV;%PATH%
  97.  
  98.    This line adds C:\NAV to your system Path. If the line is not
  99.    found, Norton AntiVirus was not added to the system Path.
  100.  
  101.  5 Locate and delete the line C:\NAV\NAVTSR.EXE
  102.  
  103.    This line loads the DOS TSR.  If the line is not found, follow the
  104.    the next procedure, Edit CONFIG.SYS, after you complete this one.
  105.  
  106.  6 If you made changes, press Alt+F to access the File menu and
  107.    choose Save to save the changes to the file.
  108.  
  109.  7 Press Alt+F to access the File menu and choose Exit to return
  110.    to the DOS prompt.
  111.

  113. Edit CONFIG.SYS
  114. **********************************************************************
  115. Only follow this procedure if the line DEVICE=C:\NAV\NAVTSR.EXE
  116. was not found in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file in the previous procedure.
  117.  
  118. To edit your CONFIG.SYS file:
  119.  
  120.  1 Type COPY CONFIG.SYS CONFIG.SAF and press Enter.
  121.  
  122.    This makes a backup copy of your CONFIG.SYS file, just in case
  123.    you make an error.
  124.  
  125.  2 Type EDIT CONFIG.SYS and press Enter.
  126.  
  127.    This starts the DOS Edit program and displays the contents of
  128.    your CONFIG.SYS file.
  129.  
  130.  3 Locate and delete the line DEVICE=C:\NAV\NAVTSR.EXE
  131.  
  132.    This is the line that loads the DOS TSR. If the line is not found,
  133.    your computer was not configured to load it at startup.
  134.  
  135.  4 If you made changes, press Alt+F to access the File menu and
  136.    choose Save to save the changes to the file.
  137.  
  138.  5 Press Alt+F to access the File menu and choose Exit to return
  139.    to the DOS prompt.

  142. Edit WIN.INI
  143. **********************************************************************
  144. To edit your WIN.INI file:
  145.  
  146.  1 Type CD \WINDOWS and press Enter to change to your Windows
  147.    directory.
  148.  
  149.  2 Type COPY WIN.INI WIN.SAF and press Enter.
  150.  
  151.    This makes a backup copy of your WIN.INI file, just in case you
  152.    make an error.
  153.  
  154.  3 Type EDIT WIN.INI and press Enter.
  155.  
  156.    This starts the DOS Edit program and displays the contents of
  157.    your WIN.INI file.
  158.  
  159.  4 Locate the line LOAD=C:\NAV\NAVTSRW.EXE
  160.  
  161.    This line loads the Windows TSR. If the line is not found, your
  162.    computer was not configured to load it when Windows starts.
  163.  
  164.  5 If the entire line is LOAD=C:\NAV\NAVTSRW.EXE, delete it.
  165.  
  166.    If the LOAD= line contains other filenames in addition to
  167.    C:\NAV\NAVTSRW.EXE, only delete C:\NAV\NAVTSRW.EXE
  168.  
  169.  6 If you made changes, press Alt+F to access the File menu and
  170.    choose Save to save the changes to the file.
  171.  
  172.  7 Press Alt+F to access the File menu and choose Exit to return
  173.    to the DOS prompt.
  174.

  176. Delete all NAV files
  177. **********************************************************************
  178. To remove the Norton AntiVirus Trial Edition files:
  179.  
  180.  1 Type CD \ and press Enter to return to the root directory.
  181.  
  182.  2 Type DELTREE C:\NAV and press Enter.
  183.  
  184.    CAUTION: This command deletes all files in the NAV directory and
  185.             then removes the NAV directory.  Make sure that C:\NAV is
  186.             the directory to which you installed Norton AntiVirus
  187.             Trial Edition.
  188.  
  189.  3 Press Y when prompted to confirm the deletion.
  190.  
  191.  4 Restart your computer.
